Walter Hoyt, age 90, of rural Pekin, ND, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 9, 2022.
Walter was born April 13, 1932, the youngest child of Leo and Eva (Brown) Hoyt. His childhood was spent in rural McHenry, ND, where he also attended school. On August 7, 1952 he married Delores Leean and they lived in the McHenry area for several years before moving to a farm near Pekin. In addition to farming, Walter did carpentry which included work at Red Willow Lake Resort as well as many building projects in the surrounding vicinity. He was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McHenry. Walter enjoyed sightseeing trips; listening to old-time music and loved to go dancing—especially with his wife, Delores. His favorite places to travel included: Red Willow Lake Resort; Hostfest in Minot; Medora (for the musical and Theodore Roosevelt park) and Rollag, MN (for the steam threshing show). He also loved to visit with many friends at the Tolna café, which was a favorite meeting place.
Survivors include his children: Colleen, Marlin, Mario (Mary Murray) all of Grand Forks, Lonnie (Amy Conrad) of Michigan, and Nola (Dave) Robson of Hayfield, MN; grandchildren: Allen Hoyt of Valley City, David Hoeft of Statford, SD, Michael Hoeft (Gina) of Grand Forks, Chris Robson (Holland) and Brian Robson (Alyssa) of Rochester, MN; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Mylerna (Harvey) Hoyt of Cooperstown, Delores (Elery) Hoyt of McHenry, and Carol (Harry) Johnson of Ipswitch; a brother-in-law, Gary Leean (Vivian Heir) of Jamestown; lifelong special friends, Marland and Alison Tweed of Tolna; along with many cousins plus a long list of friends he made wherever he traveled!
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; two brothers, Elery and Harvey of McHenry; sister/brother-in-law, Myrtle and Oscar Tufte of McHenry; and brother-in-law/sister-in law, Doc and Ione Oien of Binford.
The Funeral Service for Walter will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, McHenry, ND, on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural McHenry. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
