E. Thoralph Hensrud
Edwin Thoralph Hensrud, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille, ND.
Thoralph was born January 7, 1942 in McVille, ND, the son of Edwin and Esther (Haugen) Hensrud. He was raised on the family farm that his grandfather, Tollef Hensrud, homesteaded. He was the third generation of his family to live there. Thoralph attended school, grades 1-7 at the Forde #3 country school, and from the 8th grade on, he attended Tolna Public School. During his younger years, he worked for several area farmers, while helping his dad. In 1965, he took over the family farm, raising small grains, cattle, and for a while, sheep. Thoralph liked hunting and traveling, making annual trips to Rollag, MN and Colorado. He traveled to Nashville and also to Utah and Oregon with his brother, Gordie, stopping in several states along the way. Thoralph was an avid reader, reading anything available. He was also a great storyteller, had a great memory, and loved telling stories of family history. In 2022, Thoralph left the farm and moved to Tolna, ND. He enjoyed “city life” and going to the Tolna Café for dinner, sitting at the “men’s table’ and visiting with the guys.
Thoralph is survived by his brother, Walt (Jan) Hensrud and their children, Michael (Gina) Hensrud and Judy (Randy) Cook; his sister, Phyllis (Rodney) Haugland and their children, Eric Haugland, Paul (Heather) Haugland, and Sarah Haugland; and six great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Keith and Gordon.
Thoralph was a kind and gentle man, he will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
The Funeral Service for Thoralph will be held at Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, ND, on Monday, August 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Sigdal Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
