Ruth M. Severson

Ruth M. Severson, age 88, resident of Lakota, ND, died Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Ruth Mildred Skjerseth was born November 4, 1933 in Lakota, ND, the daughter of Gunder and Borghild (Nyland) Skjerseth.  She was raised on a farm northeast of Lakota.  She attended school in Lakota and graduated in 1951.  On July 30, 1951 Ruth married Harold Severson and they made their home south of Lakota for a short time.  In 1953 they moved to a farm northwest of Lakota.  They farmed there for many years and raised their 3 children.  In 1985 they moved to Lakota.  Ruth began working at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Lakota while living on the farm and continued to work there for 30 years.  Ruth was a member of the Lakota Lutheran Church and part of the Lakota Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.  She was active in the Lakota American Legion Auxiliary.  The Stump Lake Threshers Association was a big part of Ruth’s life.  She was on the board for many years and was very involved with planning and working with the breakfasts during the Labor Day threshing bees.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Harold of Lakota; 3 children, Deb (Mike) Aamot of Makoti, ND, Randy (Lee) Severson of Grand Forks, ND, and Sandy (Zeke) Hanna of Manvel, ND; grandchildren, Ryan (Janelle) Aamot, Jon (Patty) Aamot, Randy (Ashley) Pogatshnik, Erin (Stuart Ferry) Severson, Abi (Vince) Aerts, Frank Haley, and Charlie Rerick; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 7 siblings, Thor Skjerseth, Peter Skjerseth, Goodrun Leikas, Gladys Dahl, Bernice McClary, Betty Noland Munson, and James Skjerseth.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved her family and her family loved her very much.  She will be missed.

The Funeral Service for Ruth will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the spring at the Lakota Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
