Patricia "Pat" J. (Hand) Enstad

Patricia Jane (Hand) Enstad passed away December 25, 2021, at her home in McVille, ND, following Christmas Day spent with her family.

Pat/Patsy was born to Edgar Raymond (“Pat”) Hand and Irva Elizabeth (Deehr) Hand, October 29, 1937, in McVille, ND.  She grew up in Tolna, ND, where her family owned The Gamble Store and her mother taught high school English and Latin.  After graduating from Tolna High School (1955), she earned her 2-year teaching certificate at Valley City State College (1957).  She then taught elementary school at Sheyenne, ND, and Pelican Rapids, MN.

Pat married Jerald T. Enstad of Pekin, ND, June 6, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tolna, ND.  She continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education (1965), and taught at Svea, ND, Alexander, MN, Minnewaukan, ND, Butterfield, MN, McClusky, ND, and McVille, ND, where she completed her teaching career of 32 years, retiring in 1997.  Pat and Jerry settled in McVille, ND, in 1974.

Pat enjoyed watching and supporting her grandchildren’s activities and events.  She was an avid fan of the LA Dodger’s and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Pat was a long-time active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, and volunteer for the Nelson County Right to Life.

Pat is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jerald T. Enstad; daughters, Jody (Mark) Sand, Jill (Scott) Nustad, and Mary (Steve) Fike; grandchildren, Mallory (Craig) Brown, Lindsey (Michael) Johnson, Ryan (Becca) Sand, Paige (Kip) Jangula, Nick (Kayla) Nustad, Mara Nustad, Kara (Brady) Anderson, Brian Fike, and Jaye Fike; great grandchildren, Logan Sand, Brailee Sand, Adam Jangula, Brea Jangula, and Ila Anderson; sister, Jean Hand.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Irva Hand; infant daughter; sister, Judy (Dennis) Christofferson; mother and father-in-law, Crystal and James Enstad; brother-in-law, Roland (Mavis) Enstad; sister-in-law, Kay (Marvin) Waldo; nephews, Danny and Randy Waldo.

Funeral Mass: Friday, December 31, 11:00 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tolna, ND.  Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am, prior to the Mass.

Burial: Tolna Cemetery, Spring 2022.
