Orvin T. Hanson

Orvin T. Hanson, age 93, resident of McVille, ND, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille.

Orvin Thomas Hanson was born March 6, 1931 in Field Township of Nelson County, ND, the son of Torris and Thora (Kvamme) Hanson.  He attended the Field Township Elementary School and graduated from McVille High School.  Orvin worked for a time as an auto parts machinist in Lansing, MI, and also built cars in California.  He returned to ND and farmed in the McVille area.  In 1977 he purchased and operated Orvik Plumbing, while also operating Hanson Well Drilling.  Orvin enjoyed the many friendships he made over the years.  He was active in the McVille community, with the Knights of Pythias, the fire department, and also served a term as Mayor.  He loved fishing and playing cards, was always good for a story or two, and was very quick witted.

Orvin is survived by his sister, Phyllis Trostad of Cooperstown, ND; sister-in-law, Gretchen Hanson; brother-in-law, Charles Gehrke; several nieces & nephews; step-grandchildren; and an enormous number of friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Hanson; 2 sisters, Marjorie Hanson and Helen Gehrke; and brother-in-law, Richard Trostad.

The Memorial Service for Orvin will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural McVille, ND, on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at Our Saviors Church Cemetery at a later date.
