Mildred L. Hanson, age 93, resident of Michigan, ND, died Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.
Mildred Laurine Sparks was born November 15, 1927 on the family farm in Williams Township of Nelson County, ND, the daughter of George and Mabel (Stubbs) Sparks. She attended Williams Consolidated School through the 8th grade, then attended Michigan High School, graduating in 1945. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College and later, the University of North Dakota. She taught elementary school children for 17 years in North Dakota and Minnesota. The age she liked best to teach was first grade. By the time each school year was over she loved each child very much! Mildred was united in marriage to Marvin Hanson on June 20, 1964 in the United Church of Christ in Lakota, ND. The happily married couple lived on Marvin’s farm in Williams Township. Milly kept busy with house work, she loved to do yard work, bake and read books. She also had a vegetable garden and helped on the farm.
Milly will be deeply missed by her brother, Leroy Sparks and his 2 daughters, Nancy (Brandon) Galde and their children, Hannah, Erik & Brooklyn, and Mary (Brian) Schmidt and their children, Breanne, Jase & Blake; a niece, Judy Burgess; and several nieces & nephews on Marvin’s side of the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Margery and Lois (Bud) Burgess; and a nephew, John Burgess.
Funeral services for Mildred will be private, with burial in the Michigan Cemetery. A video recording of the service will be viewable at this website on Monday, March 1, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Michigan Cemetery, Michigan Lutheran Church, the Michigan Ambulance, or the Lakota Ambulance.
