Mike Yoney Obituary

Mike Yoney, age 69, of Petersburg, ND, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Lakota Good Samaritan Society, having become a resident there on January 28.  His family was by his side.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the charitable organization of the donor's choosing.

Michael Wayne Yoney was born October 28, 1951 to William and Irene (Peterson) Yoney.  He was the youngest of 7 children.  On June 14, 1974, he married Vicki Ternquist of Dahlen.  They lived south of Petersburg where, Mike pursued his passion for farming.  The marriage and the farm survived through thick and thin for 47 years.  He passed his love for farming to son, Dustin, who continues the tradition.  They were blessed with 2 children, whom he loved with all his heart; Dustin born in 1982 and Emily born in 1987.  He treasured a loving relationship with daughter-in-law, Ashley.  His grandchildren, Harper and Rhett, were the delight of his life.  He was a member of Petersburg Lutheran Church and served as a director for several civic organizations.  Mike’s interests were old tractors, classic cars, and big motors.  Vicki tagged along with him to many car shows, drag races, and burn-out contests.  Over the last 14 years, he accompanied her to Red Willow Lake where the family gathered and friendships and memories were made.  He enjoyed many counterclockwise pontoon rides.  He had a unique sense of humor and his family hopes a memory of Mike will bring a smile.  The love, concern, prayers, phone calls, visits, pick-me-ups, and help from dear friends and family touched his heart and meant so much to him.  His wish was to take the last ride in the back of his 1969 El Camino to the cemetery.  His wish will be carried out at a later date.

We would like to thank the staff of the Lakota Good Samaritan Society for the exceptional care Mike received with compassion, love, and dignity.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vicki; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Ashley; daughter, Emily and companion, Justin Halvorson; grandchildren, Harper and Rhett Yoney; sister, Peggy Johnson (Dwight); brothers, Terry Yoney (Bonnie) and Merle Yoney; mother-in-law, Evelyn Ternquist; 8 nephews; 9 nieces; many cousins; uncle, Lowell Peterson; and aunt, MaryAnn Peterson.

He was preceded by his parents; sister, Darlene Jallo and husband Marvin; brothers, Richard Yoney and wife Judy, and Dennis Yoney and wife Sharon; sister-in-law, Dorothy Yoney; nephews, Brian Yoney and Shane Yoney; father-in-law, Clayton Ternquist.

The visitation for Mike will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Sunday, March 14, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be private, with burial in the spring at the Petersburg Cemetery.
