Michael T. Vasicek

Michael T. Vasicek, age 68, resident of Fargo, ND, formerly of Lakota, ND, died Monday, July 17, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Michael Trent Vasicek was born December 20, 1954 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Theodore and Eleanor (Kleven) Vasicek.  He was raised on the family farm near Brocket, ND, until the family moved into Lakota in 1961.  He graduated with the class of 1974 from Lakota High School.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Carrier Kittyhawk with the CV63S3 Division for his entire enlistment.  He served in Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, and several times at Hawaii.  He was honorably discharged in 1977 and returned to Lakota.  Michael worked various jobs in the area until he started as a softball umpire at Red Willow Lake Resort and also league games in the area.  He then attended Dickinson State College for two years before returning to Lakota.  He then moved to Grand Forks and resumed umpiring until the flood of 1997 when he moved to Fargo.  Michael was a member of the American Legion and the Masons.  He enjoyed working with plastic canvas, reading, and volunteer work, most notably with the Red Cross, Dorothy Day Center, food pantry, Toys for Tots, First Link, and the Red River Valley Fair.

Michael is survived by his brother, Alan (Janet) Vasicek of San Tan Valley, AZ; and also his nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lana Ward Becker; and 2 brothers-in-law, Leroy Ward and Cliff Becker.

The Funeral Service for Michael will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
