MaryAnn Sundquist Obituary

MaryAnn (Dragland) Sundquist, 89, of Aneta, ND was reunited with her loving husband of 62 years, Arnold Sundquist Jr. on May 16, 2019.  She was born to Christ and Ansoph Dragland on June 30, 1929 in New England, North Dakota.

MaryAnn graduated as Valedictorian of McVille, North Dakota High School in 1947, and earned a teaching certificate from Mayville State Teacher’s College. She taught school for two years in rural Aneta, and one year in rural Tolna, where she used her talents and her love of music and art to prepare the curriculum for her students.

MaryAnn and Arnold were married in 1950 and had four children. She always had a very active role with the family farm. In addition to the delicious meals she delivered to the fields, she also kept the books, drove truck, hauled bales, maintained the garden and did the countless tasks needed to make the farm successful.  An avid reader, she also enjoyed embroidery and baking.

She devoted her life to caring for her family and serving her church and community. She spent innumerable hours over many decades providing care for family members at the nursing homes in Northwood and Aneta.  She was very active in the Sundahl Lutheran Church.  Over the years she served in many capacities including Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher and superintendent, vice president and treasurer of Ladies Aide, and Luther League advisor. She also arranged church services for home bound individuals and was on the quilting committee.  MaryAnn served on the election board for many years.  She was also the treasurer for the Silent Hill Cemetery Association for 11 years.

Travel is something the family enjoyed, with MaryAnn and Arnold traveling extensively throughout the United States as well as Norway, Sweden, and Germany to visit family.

She is survived by her children Paul (Peggy) Sundquist, Casselton, ND; Karen Olson (Ove Aaser), McVille, ND; Dan (Bobbi) Sundquist, Pekin, ND, and Julie (Dave) Kollstedt, Gainesville, VA, and siblings Mavis Dahl, Grace Von Ruden, Dorothy (John) Stevens, Juel (Sharon) Dragland, Don (Rosalie) Dragland, and numerous nieces and nephews.
