Marie Frances Schwan

Marie Frances Schwan, age 57, resident of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Michigan, ND, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at her home in Devils Lake.

Marie was born May 7, 1965 in the Nelson County Memorial Hospital at Michigan, ND, the daughter of David and Mary Elizabeth (Lamb) Schwan.  Marie was a special sister to her siblings, an angel from heaven born with Down Syndrome Disorder.  Marie lived with her family at home in Michigan for most of her life.  In 1987 it was decided that Marie needed more care, and was when she moved into her new home in Devils Lake with REM.  Marie’s new REM family and caretakers loved Marie.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Schwan.

Marie will be missed by her sisters, Emilie (Tom) Benson of Lakota, ND and Claudia (Mike) Ryba of Michigan, ND; and her brothers, Richard (Carol) Schwan of Topeka, KS and James Schwan of Grand Forks, ND.

The family is very grateful to REM Devils Lake and Catholic Charities of North Dakota for the great care and kindness shown to our sister Marie.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Michigan, ND, on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be in the Michigan Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Church on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
