Marian J. Berdal

Marian J. Berdal, age 95, resident of Petersburg, ND, died Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND.

Marian Josephine Kovarik was born July 6, 1927 in Latona Township of Walsh County, near Lankin, ND, the daughter of John and Josephine (Shereck) Kovarik.  She was baptized and confirmed at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Bechyne.  After graduation she stayed at home, helping on the farm and helping neighbors.  Marian married Freddie Berdal on October 21, 1953 at the Dahlen Lutheran Church, Dahlen, ND.  They lived on a farm near Petersburg, ND, where they raised 3 children, Johnny, Lucille, and Wayne.  She was a member of ELCW and was very active at the Dahlen Church, Sunday School, and communities.  She also was a member of the Dahlen Square Dance Club, Homemakers, and the Golden Girls Birthday Club.  Marian enjoyed quilting, baking, flowers, gardening, and spending time with family.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were all very special to her, she never forgot a holiday or anyone’s birthday.  Quilting was a winter hobby; everyone has gotten a homemade quilt, even new members that joined the family and those not entered with us yet have a special quilt waiting for them from Grandma.

Marian will be greatly missed by her 3 children, John (Carolyn) Berdal of Petersburg, ND, Lucy (Todd) Pierson of Leeds, ND, and Wayne (Kathy) Berdal of Petersburg, ND; 8 grandchildren, Deanne (Steve) Nelson of Rugby, Danielle Pierson of Grand Forks, Angela (Damien) Rassier of Grand Forks, Nathan (Mallory) Berdal of Grand Forks, Dayna (John) Bartlette of Linton, Bryce (Mara) Berdal of Niagara, Nicole (Jon) Brower of Fargo, and Austin (Cassie) Berdal of Fargo; 10 great grandchildren, Bailey, Taylor, Reed, Quinn & Axl Nelson, Halle, Blair & Tate Berdal, and Chay & Avery Rassier; brother-in-law, Leonard Berdal; sister-in-law, Valborg Berdal; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie; her parents; 3 sisters, Alice, Bessie, and Sylvia; and her brother, Charley.

The Funeral Service for Marian will be held at the Dahlen Lutheran Church, Dahlen, ND, on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the spring at the Zion Cemetery, rural Dahlen.  Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
