Loren Gene Stutrud, 71, passed away of cancer on June 10, 2023 at Valley Elder Care, Grand Forks, ND.
Loren was born at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND on December 17, 1951, the son of Loy (Stein) Stutrud and the late Gerald Stutrud. He confirmed his baptism at the Lutheran Church of McVille and graduated from McVille Public High School in 1969. Loren attended Mayville State College (ND) and later earned a BS Business Administration from UND. He was married for a brief time. Since then, he resided in Grand Forks and was employed by Firestone Tire, and at various Grand Forks businesses. He recently retired but always talked about going back to work. In Loren’s early 20s, he was confronted with a devastating mental illness, which haunted, taunted and tested him for the remainder of his life. This disease has no cure; it jeopardized his safety and physical well-being. Mental illness robbed him of a full life, but he lived the very best life possible. His family is grateful to medical professionals and other networks that cared for Loren throughout his life. Loren was a fan of sprint cars racing on dirt tracks, photography, fishing, Diet Coke, and tobacco. Family events were important to Loren, and he was eager to share interesting stories. He was thoughtful towards his family, remembering them with gifts and cards. Loren was a beloved son, brother and friend.
