Kent Burton Quanbeck, age 90, of McVille, ND, died Monday, April 6, 2020, at the NCHS Hospital in McVille.
Kent Quanbeck was born on January 28, 1930, in rural Nelson County, ND, to Ludvig and Emma (Gudim) Quanbeck. He attended elementary school in rural Nelson County, attended Oak Grove Lutheran High School, Fargo, ND, and graduated from Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN.
Kent married Mabel Danielson on November 8, 1952, at Christiania Lutheran Free Church near Farmington, MN. From 1953 to 1955, Kent and Mabel lived in Colorado Springs, CO, where Kent was in the U.S. Army. They returned to the Quanbeck family farm near McVille in 1955. In addition to operating the dairy farm, Kent owned and operated Kent’s Farm Service which involved sales and service of Surge and Agromatic dairy and barn equipment. He was also a representative for American Breeders Service.
Kent was an active member of the community, serving as Nesheim Twp. Clerk and Chairman of the McVille Community Hospital Board. He additionally served on the Board of Parish Education for the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations and on the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church Board of Deacons. While church, his wife, and his family were his first priorities, he also enjoyed traveling, showing slides from trips taken with his family, Ford vehicles, IH tractors, the daily newspaper, and puzzles. He had a deep appreciation for family history, as evidenced by a trip to Norway to see the family farm, his efforts to track down and mark the grave of his great-grandfather Sveinung Kvambekk, and his unyielding affection for the family farm in the Sheyenne River Valley just south of McVille.
