Kathryn Ward, age 79 resident of McVille, ND, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center.
Kathy was born February 3, 1944 to Minruh and Lillian (Erickson) Gronaas in Fargo, ND. She attended school in McVille. Kathy married Clayton Denzil Ward on November 18, 1962 at the McVille Lutheran Church. Kathy and Clayton began their married life on a farm north of Hamar briefly before moving to the family farm north of McVille where Kathy grew up. Kathy enjoyed life as a homemaker and assisted Clayton on the family farm. She also had various jobs as a baker at the grocery store, and selling Avon, however her greatest accomplishment was raising their three beautiful daughters. She was a skilled gardener, an amazing seamstress, hobby photographer, loved to bake, read, and could beat anyone at scrabble. She was an active member of the choir in the McVille Lutheran Church for many years. She and Clayton served as advisors for the Luther League, and she served on the church council. Kathy loved to travel, including a trip to Norway with her sisters to meet her Norwegian relatives as well as several trips later in life with Clayton. She and Clayton enjoyed traveling to Colorado and Texas to spend time with their out of state grandkids.
Kathy will be deeply missed by her husband, Clayton; her daughters, Lisa (Jack) Haines of Binford, Lori (Glenn) Adams of Shreveport, LA, and Pam (Tim) Reynolds of Atlanta, TX; ten grandchildren, Lisa’s children Alex and Dillon Haines, Lori’s children Kolby Davis, Turner (Lindsay) Glissman, and Trey Glissman, and Pam’s children Spencer Reynolds, Brock Yates, Natalie (Erick) Reynolds, Austin Reynolds, and Sydney Slayton; two great grandchildren, Clayton Davis, and Theo Reynolds-Salcedo; sister, Audrey (Marlin) Reinhart; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Doug) Carlson and Deanna Ward; and many nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Joy and Denzil Ward; sister and brother-in-law, Annette (Rudy) Hebbelmen; and brother-in-law, Rick Ward.
Memorial Services for Kathy will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with family visitation at 9:30 a.m. at the McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Nelson County Health System Hospice Family Rooms (nelsoncountyhealthsystem.org) or charity of your choice.
