Junette A. Dahlen, age 84, lifelong resident of Edmore, ND, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND, after a long battle with end stage lung disease.
Junette Ardell Myrvik was born on the farm in Highland Township, northeast of Edmore, to Arthur and Alma (Stensland) Myrvik. She was the 2nd of 5 children. As was the custom in those days, she was delivered by a midwife on April 5, 1937. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Hans Lutheran church of rural Edmore. She attended the Highland Township Country School and graduated from Edmore High School in 1955. In those days, farms were much smaller and most of her neighbors were Myrvik and Stensland aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. She had often said “if an outsider spoke badly of one of us, they spoke badly of all of us.”
Junette married George “Bud” Dahlen Jr. on September 11, 1955, and the two made their lifelong home and raised their family of 3 children in Edmore. Junette worked for many years as a substitute mail carrier alongside of Bud, based out of the Edmore post office. She provided years of loving child care for her 5 grandchildren and always had time to make cookies, bars, or other desserts for their activities. She was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore. She was involved in Ladies Aide and greatly enjoyed making quilts with the other women of the church. She was a part of the church prayer chain and for many, many years, sent cards on behalf of the church to those who were ill, hospitalized, in nursing homes, or who had recently passed away. Junette was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Rural Mail Carriers Association. After Bud retired, they enjoyed travelling the country, especially camping with family and friends. They particularly enjoyed their time as seasonal campers at Woodland Resort on Devils Lake. In January of 2018 Bud & Junette moved to Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake. Bud passed away August 14, 2018.
Junette will be deeply missed by her daughters, Tammy (Bruce) Berg and Wanda (Doug) Loff, both of Edmore; a son, James (Kathy) Dahlen of Devils Lake; 5 grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Berg of Bemidji, MN, Trent (Jenny) Berg of Grand Forks, Amy (Sam) Joseph of Jamestown, Matt (Erika) Berg of West Fargo, and Aaron (Jayme) Loff of Fessenden; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Crystal Myrvik of Tipton, IA and Sarah Myrvik of Vancouver, WA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents; her sister, Hazel Krogfoss; brothers, Richard Myrvik, Raymond Myrvik, and a brother in infancy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Care Center, Dr. Downs, and Dr. Moraleda for their wonderful care given to Junette.
The Memorial Service for Junette will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Edmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
