Jerod L. Mattern

Jerod Lee Mattern was taken from us Wednesday, December 30, 2020 while surrounded by family.

Jerod was born October 30, 1990 to Rodney and Sheila (Brunner) Mattern in Langdon, ND.  He was baptized in the Catholic faith.  He received his formal education from Lakota school district, where he was involved in FFA, Raiders golf, and baseball.  He graduated in 2010.  After high school he moved to Grand Forks and Fargo.  In April 2014 he returned to Lakota where he worked for Sunlac and Listen Center, dealing blackjack and bartending at Sunlac bar.

Jerod was an avid sports enthusiast.  He loved to play darts and was a member of Team Sunlac for 2 years, winning championships both years.  In 2016 he made the game winning shot to beat out brother Jayden’s team to become the league champions.  His biggest passion was for the St. Louis Cardinals and the game of baseball.  He followed their seasons closely and had an impressive memorabilia, and baseball card collection.  Jerod could always be counted on to spout Cardinals statistics and banter back and forth with Minnesota Twins fan brothers, dad, and stepdad.

Jerod is survived by his parents, Rodney Mattern of Lakota, ND and Sheila (Norris) Severtson of Grafton, ND; two brothers, Brandan (Melissa) Hasby of Crookston MN and Jayden Mattern of Horace, ND; two nieces, Grace and Jocelyn; and one nephew, Jude all of Crookston, MN; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Brunner, Carol (Lindbo) Brunner, Lloyd Mattern, and Rachel (Ackerman) Mattern; uncle, Kevin Mattern; and aunt, Donna Brunner.

Jerod will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

There will be a public visitation at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  The Memorial Service for Jerod will be private.
