Jean Kiefat

Jean Kiefat, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away April 14, 2021 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND at the age of 92.

Jean Thelma Haabak was born to Oliver Haabak and Agnes Johnson Haabak on July 16, 1928 in rural Hampden, ND.  She grew up in rural Kloten, ND graduating high school in 1946. She taught at Ora country school for two years before marrying Alvin Kiefat on July 2, 1949. They spent eight years in Minneapolis, MN before moving to rural Aneta, ND to farm and raise their five children.

Jean was an active member of Logan Church and later Sundahl. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family. She was devoted to her faith, family, and friends. Jean will be remembered as an honorable, kind woman who had integrity and grace. 

Jean is survived by her children Ray (Jackie) Kiefat, Jolene (Doug) Hedstrom, Leann (Todd) Olson, and Luann (Kent) Knudson, grandchildren Jarrod (Andrea) Kiefat, Kaden Kiefat, Melinda (John) Weems, Lindsay Kiefat, Kally Knudson, Camila Knudson, Leisha Knudson, Laura Knudson, Cameron Knudson, Levi Knudson, Crystal Romero, Dustin Olson, Leah Hedstrom, Lauren Hedstrom, and Heather Gunderman, 14 great grandchildren, brothers-in-law Raymond Kiefat and Dean Bentley, sisters-in-law Shirley Bentley and Mildred Mork, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, son Denis, brother Sidney, sisters-in-law Bernice Kiefat, Ileen Kiefat, and Eileen Kiefat, and brothers-in-law Lawrence Kiefat, Deloy Kiefat, and William Mork.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta, ND.
