Irving “Hardly Dark” Marquart, age 93, resident of Lakota, ND, passed peacefully on January 12, 2023 in Grand Forks, ND, with family at his side.
Irving was born in Hancock, MN on June 21, 1929. At age 14, he moved to Nelson County, ND, where he eventually established his farmstead. Irving was well focused, with only an 8th grade education, he received his pilot license and started his aerial spraying business lasting 40 years. His accomplishments included being a flight instructor, a well-known wood worker, and a farmer. Irving married Gladys Larson on June 25, 1950. Those two were inseparable for 72 years. His love was shown through his hobbies of fishing, wood working, hunting, trapping, and mowing grass. The last few years you would find Irving playing cards or reading. His passion for fishing is being passed on through his annual family fishing tournament. Irving truly enjoyed watching his many grandchildren catch their first fish. He was an amazing mentor and role model.
Irving will be deeply missed by his wife, Gladys; and children, Tim Marquart of San Antonio, TX and children Tracey and Matthew; the late Dan (Nancy) Marquart, and children Danielle, Marnie, Kaitlin, and stepchildren Pete, Matt, Kellie, Ben, Jake, Joseph, Karrie, and Thomas;
Roxanne Campbell of Dell City, TX and children Glennda, Elizabeth, and Xenna; Barbara (Curtis) Sherrodd of Hugo, OK and children Zachary, Kalen, Jeremy, and Zachary; Colleen (Neal) Cook of Beardsley, MN and children Samantha, Nicole, Danielle, Ryan, and Evan;
Kelley (Scott) Stabenow of Pahrump, NV and children Brandon, Cody, Devin, Ky, and stepchildren Garrett, Scotty, Lindsey, and Wyatt; Sherry (Cary) Eidsness of Grand Junction, CO and children Alyssa and Camron; many great and great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Lang-Turner of Pine River, MN.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dan Marquart; parents, Julius and Fredella Marquart; brothers, Bob and Kenny; and sisters, Idella and Arlene.
The Memorial Service will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private at the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Tuesday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Lakota Library, with an emphasis toward large print adult books or Lakota Lutheran Church.
