Howard W Strand

Howard W. Strand, age 79, resident of Brocket, ND, died Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Nelson County Health System Hospital in McVille, ND.

Howard Wayne Strand was born February 21, 1941, the son of Howard and Pearl (Leith) Strand, at his grandparent’s home near Doyon, ND.  He grew up on the family farm in Newbre Township, where he lived until he graduated high school.  Howard attended the Newbre School through his elementary years and graduated from Brocket High School.  He then attended the Wahpeton School of Science and graduated with a two year degree in machine and welding.  He was employed as a machinist and welder for some years and later built his shop near Brocket.  Along with the shop, he farmed for many years.  In later years he helped his son with the field work.  It made his day to be in the tractor out in the field.  He was an avid car race supporter.  He rarely missed a race; first with his son racing, and the last years his grandson.  He always looked forward to the weekend races.

Howard is survived by his wife of 60 years, Genevieve “Gen”; sons, Brian (Mary) and Craig (Laree); grandchildren, Dustin (Savanah), Jessie (Scott), Rebecca (Jeff), Caila, and Danielle; step-grandchildren, Naomi (Kelly) and Mandee; 7 great grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Karen Ertmann.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis Freije.

A private service will be held in the spring, with burial in the Lakota Cemetery.
