Georgia Adeline Matejcek, 100, of Devils Lake, ND, passed away on August 30, 2023, with her family by her side.
Georgia was born to Emil and Nellie (Bosh) Kratochvil on February 1, 1923 in Lankin, ND. She attended Lankin Public School. Georgia married Roland Matejcek in 1945, they raised their family on their farm near Lawton, ND, enjoying 65 years of blissful marriage. Georgia and Roland loved their Lomice’ church (St. Catherine’s), family, neighbors and friends and cruised the prairie for bingo, dinners, dance and cards. Kids and grandkids loved the farm and her awesome cooking and willingness to listen and talk to them about anything.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 2010; sisters, Loretta (Harold) McLaughlin, Harriet (Ervin) Omlie, infant twin sister Marion; and granddaughter, Kathy Vasichek (Jason).
Georgia is survived by her sister, Pat Hills (Tom); daughter, Darlene Vasichek (John); son, David Matejcek (Bernadette); grandchildren, Jason, Shelby (Kari) and David (Shayana) Vasichek, Jackie and Michael Matejcek; and great grandchildren, Tucker, Saul and Marion Vasichek; and several nieces and nephews.
Georgia was very active in Lomice’--Saint Catherine’s Church and a member of Lawton and Devils Lake Senior Centers. She served as secretary of Lankin Post 157 American Legion Auxiliary. She was best known for her delicious meals and baking. She never failed putting your birthday on Devils Lake radio. Georgia enjoyed gardening, crocheting, game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune (no calls between 6:30 and 7:00PM), Mollie B and Big Joe. Her greatest accomplishment? Living to 100!
A sweet lovely lady, she will be missed.
