Don V. Eberhardt

Don V. Eberhardt, age 90, resident of Aneta, ND, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille, ND.

Don Victor Eberhardt was born March 28, 1931 to Otto and Annie (Hillesland) Eberhardt at the home of Annie’s sister in Kloten, ND.  He grew up in Lenora Township, Griggs County, ND and attended country school one mile away.  He loved horses, rode the binder, shocked the grain, and rode with his dad when he hauled it to Kloten.  Milking cows with his mom and dad was one of his many jobs.  Catching wild pigeons, raising them, then shipping them to places on the railroad in Aneta.  Racing horses in Cooperstown and Aneta was also something he enjoyed, often riding all day or the night beforehand and stay at the local stable.  Don met the love of his life when taking his nephew to the nearby country school, and the teacher was Myrtle.  Don and Myrtle Luella Pederson were married June 24, 1951 in her hometown of Hannaford, ND, where they made their first home together.  Don started working for the railroad there.  Don was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953.  After basic training he was sent to Munich, Germany and came home in 1955.  He continued working for the railroad but eventually quit when he had to start working far from home.  He then began working at the Griggs County Highway Department and farmed in Lenora Township.  Don retired after 36 years of working for the county, then enjoyed his horses full-time and raised cows.  He also enjoyed being active at Ottawa Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #16, Griggs County Museum, many parades with their team of Percherons, attending fur & feather meets, riding his 4 wheeler on the trails in the woods with his dog, telling stories, hunting, trapping, and sharing all this with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving members of his family are his son, Merlin (Sheri) Eberhardt; daughter, Bonnie (Mike) Johnson; 9 grandchildren, Don Al, Ryan (Jess), Shanna (Jeff), David (Jenny), Melony (Eric), John (Tanya), Angela, Michael Jr., and Holly (Caden); 21 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Annabelle Johnson; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle; 3 sisters, Ina Eberhardt, Marion Edwardson, and Evelyn Smallbeck; and 3 brothers, Robert, Cleo, and Ernest.

The Funeral Service will be held at Ottawa Lutheran Church, rural Aneta, ND, on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the Ottawa Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
