Dena B. (Ahonen) Ferguson

Dena (Ahonen) Ferguson, age 91, resident of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Dena Bernette Nelson was born April 22, 1929 in Adams, ND, the daughter of Bernard and Belle (Demoray) Nelson.  She was raised and attended school at Pelto, ND.  She married John Ahonen on April 22, 1946 at Lakota and farmed together near Brocket, ND.  John passed away July 30, 1973.  Dena moved to Lakota and worked as a nurse’s aid at the Good Samaritan Home for 11 years.  Dena married Elton Ferguson on February 14, 1978.  Elton passed away February 1, 1995.  Dena entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in 2012.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Nelson County Historical Society, Eastern Star, Eagles Auxiliary, and Grace Lutheran Church.

Dena is survived by her children, Edwin (Sandy), Jan, Donna, and John; stepchildren, Frank (Bernice), Warren (Linda), Bob (Shirley), Marian, Mintie, Rita (Bill), and Alice (Roland); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Ruby (Donovan) Leith.

She is preceded in death by her husbands; infant son, David Norman; sister, Arlene; stepdaughter, Linda Johnson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Ahonen; and sons-in-law, Glenn Knetter, Darell Sundeen, and Keith Swingdoff.

Funeral services for Dena will be private with burial in the Enterprise Cemetery, rural Brocket, ND.

The pallbearers will be Mike Sundeen, Paul Ahonen, Joe Ahonen, Dan Ferguson, Lee Ferguson, Curt Olson, Paul Miller, Bobby Ferguson, Cory Estenson, and Michael Grochowski.  The honorary pallbearers will include all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Enterprise Cemetery, rural Brocket, ND.
