Daniel “Red” Oien Jr. age 66, resident of Binford, ND passed away while surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Altru Health System in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Dan was born on May 5th, 1954 in Cooperstown, ND the son of Dan Sr. and Ione (Leean) Oien. He grew up and was educated in Binford, ND, he worked for various farmers and on the family farm. He married Pat Avdem on September 23, 1973 in Pekin, ND and two children Tanya and Stuart resulted from their love.
Dan began having severe health issues and ended up at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The family lived in Rogers, Minnesota for 2 ½ years while Dan underwent his life saving heart and double lung transplant on July 8, 1989. Although Dan had many issues with the transplant, he never regretted having the transplant 31 years ago. He loved living the country life, Elvis Presley and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife Pat, son Stuart (Jordan) and daughter Tanya, grandchildren, Kahlan, Liam and Finley, Sisters Deanna(Gale) Melby and Janice(Jeff) Johnson, mother in law Vivian Avdem and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be at Bethany Free Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with a visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. Fellowship and memories will be shared at the Pekin Community Center following the interment at the Bethany Free Lutheran Cemetery.
