Alfred Polasky Obituary

Alfred Paul “Tex” Polasky, age 82, of Michigan, ND, passed away peacefully in his home on December 5, 2022 after a hard and difficult battle with cancer.  His son, Alfred Jr., was by his side as he passed.

Alfred was born February 17, 1940 to Margaret (Etten-Motl) Polasky and Ralph Polasky in Tappen, ND.  Alfred was the 8th child of 14 children.  He graduated from Tappen High School and then joined the National Guard.  He was a chaplain’s assistant during his service.  Alfred met his beloved Jeanne Severson in 1961 on a blind date.  He fell in love immediately, as did Jeanne.  They were wed on June 23, 1962 in Tappen.  They resided in Fargo, ND for a short while as he completed beauty school and had 2 children, Kari & Julie.  They moved to Mentone and then San Bernadino, CA for a year soon after, where he was a mortician’s hair dresser and then Alfred became a milk delivery man.  Soon they both became homesick for North Dakota and returned to Fargo.

Alfred worked as a beautician but soon started working for the White Drug company.  Within a few short years, he became manager and was required to move his family to Aberdeen, SD, where he managed another White Drug store.  While in Aberdeen, Al and Jeanne welcomed another baby girl, Kathrine, and then twin boys, Timothy and Thomas.  Alfred opened up other stores in the region and finally landed in Bismarck, ND in the 70’s to manage a store there.  He worked for several years in this position.  Soon though, Alfred realized this was not the life he dreamed of for his family.  Alfred decided he wanted his family raised on a farm and he moved all of them to a farm he rented near Driscoll, ND, where he began milking Holstein cows.  He and Jeanne embarked on this new adventure wholeheartedly.  In the Driscoll area, they again welcomed another baby girl, Jennifer.  Alfred was determined to own his own land and operation.  He was offered the opportunity to purchase his wife Jeanne’s family farm near McVille/Michigan, ND.  Alfred gladly accepted.  He moved all of his family and his whole herd up to the homestead.  There they both welcomed again another boy, Alfred Jr. and then Adam.  Alfred worked his herd of Holsteins up to approximately 250 head and worked their land.  He was a very hard working man, always busy with the cattle and the farm, very few vacations.

Alfred loved his family, the farm, and his cattle.  Alfred and Jeanne were very rarely, if ever, apart until Jeanne’s death in 2009.  Ironically, he passed at approximately the same time as Jeanne did in the same home.  He enjoyed his priest friends whom he kept throughout the years.  In their younger years, Alfred and Jeanne loved to go dancing.  He was a wonderful singer and had won an Elvis Presley contest in his late teens, he was a mixture of Elvis and Dean Martin.  Alfred loved to play jokes and kid people, he was a happy person.  He would always have fun with their friends.  Thirty-one was his favorite card game, and he always seemed to win.  Alfred enjoyed his Copenhagen, a sip of Wild Turkey, a can of Busch Light, and Wheel of Fortune in the evenings.  He also was very proud of his homemade cookies, which by the way never revealed his recipe, they were delicious!  After retirement, he continued on with an immense garden.  He would preserve his produce, and he would donate much to the food pantry, his children and friends.  Alfred was a deeply religious and devout Catholic who loved his faith.  His rosary was in his hands and his scapular was around his neck when he passed.

Alfred is survived by his children, Kari (Paul) Presler of Mandan, Julie (Bryan) Stites of Texas, Kathrine (Jay-deceased) Breckheimer of Tolna, Timothy (Dani) Polasky of Germany, Thomas Polasky of Tolna, Jennifer (Geno) Polasky of Swaleville, IA, Alfred G. Polasky of Ada, MN, Adam (Jackie) Polasky of Fargo; grandchildren, Kirsten Presler, Stephanie (Olson) Kaasa, Tyler Olson, Lexxi Olson, Emily Mcmahan, and Bret Polasky; great grandchildren, Zavia and Toby Mcmahan, and Cooper Olsen; his brothers and sisters, Louis, David, and Donald Polasky, Mary Johnson, and Catherine (Janie) Polasky; and many beloved nieces & nephews.

Alfred is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne Polasky; his parents, Ralph and Margaret Polasky; his brothers and sister, Albert, Dennis, and Edmond Motl, Ralph, Joseph, James, and George Polasky, and Carol Ziemba.
