Theodore Matejcek Obituary

Theodore G. Matejcek, age 92, of Lakota, ND, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

“Ted” was born February 8, 1926 on the Matejcek farmstead, Sauter Township of Walsh County, where he lived for 73 years.  Ted was the only son born to Adolph and Eleanor (Bina) Matejcek.  Ted attended Sauter Township School through the eighth grade.  Ted married Hazel Evenson on October 29, 1945 at Hoff Lutheran Church, rural Brocket.  The couple lived and farmed side by side until the spring of 1999 when they moved to Lakota.  Ted continued to actively farm until 2004.

Through his life, Ted had many occupations.  Ted was a self-taught carpenter, bin erector, crop adjuster, and assisted the local funeral home with services.  His main occupation and love was farming alongside his father, Adolph; son, Darrell; and grandson, Trent.

Ted was active and served on many boards throughout his years.  He was a Director on the Board for the North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts and later became the president.  He served on the Walsh County Soil Conservation District, United Lutheran Church of Brocket Council, Nelson County Historical Society, Lakota Ambulance District, the Lakota Good Samaritan Advisory Board, and was the Sauter Township Assessor from 1948 to 2017.  Ted was a judge for many county fairs in Nelson, Ramsey and Walsh counties.  Ted was very proud to receive the Lakota Sportsmanship “fan of the year” award in 2012-13.

Ted was very proud of his Czech heritage.  Everyone knew Ted’s white Ford by the bumper sticker that said “jak se máš“.  He enjoyed watching game shows and listening to Mollie B, Big Joe and Sayler’s Polka Party.

Ted will be deeply missed by his daughter, Evonne (Robert) Frederick; sister, Rangina Bina; grandchildren, Tricia (Justin) Nerison, Kim (Perry) Palm, Mark Matejcek (Stefani Harman), Nicole (Haagen) Diener, Trent (Sarah) Matejcek, Troy (Rhonda) Frederick, Travis (Laura) Frederick, Michelle (Derek) Madsen; great-grandchildren, Brody (Mandy) Henningsgard, Braden Henningsgard, Eric Palm, Ethan, Keira and Chase Matejcek, Thea and Svea Diener, Hunter and Harper Frederick, Lauren Madsen, Rachel Nerison, Jordan Nerison, Gabe, Aiden, Samuel, Elijah, Nathan and Oliver Frederick; great-great-grandson, Hudson Henningsgard; and several nieces and nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; son, Darrell; and sister, Georgia Balek Elgin.
