Richard Matthew Morken was born April 24, 1934 in Lakota, ND, the youngest of four boys to Carl and Milda (Olsen) Morken of Pekin. He was raised in the area and graduated from Pekin High School. He then served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Knox, KY. Richard married Arlene Molmen of Pekin, the daughter of Arnold & Myrtle (Quam) Molmen, on February 25, 1955 at Sheyenne Lutheran Church. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Richard has served on the Pekin Elevator Board, Nelson County Water Board, and the Sheyenne Church Cemetery Board. He started farming when he was 21 years old and has farmed for 63 years. He was a good farmer; “farming was his life”. He was interested in most sports – baseball, especially, which he played for many years and his boys shared his interest. We love him and will miss him. God bless him.
