Leslie Brooks Obituary

Leslie Brooks, 97, of Kloten, ND, answered “The Master’s Call” and was brought Home on Thursday, May 3, 2018.  Family was present at the NCHS Care Center in McVille, ND.

Leslie was born February 19, 1921 at Constance, MN to Alexander and Ella Mae (Seymour) Brooks.  Leslie graduated from Finley, ND High School in 1940.  He served as a field medic in the South Pacific Theater of WWII.  He was involved in the battle of Leyte Gulf, Philippines, and also witnessed the Japanese Emperor’s surrender.

Leslie was a humble but highly skilled carpenter for over 50 years in and around Nelson County.  Many people are sheltered by those homes today.  He had a servant’s heart and great compassion for those he met in life.  “It is no secret what God can do.”

Leslie was married to Ethel Thompson by Rev. Marcus Tufteland of Valley Grove Lutheran Church at Kloten on September 8, 1946.  To this marriage was born four children:  Marilyn (Jim) Henderson, Page, ND, Irene (Richard) Helm, Cooperstown, ND, Robert (Sue) Brooks, Cooperstown, ND and Gerald (Luann) Brooks, McVille, ND.

Leslie is survived by 4 children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Edith Johnson, McVille, ND and Lori Thompson, Grand Forks, ND, and many nephews and nieces.

Special thanks are given for Brad and Elizabeth Stromme’s friendship.

Leslie was preceded in death by his wife Ethel, his parents, sisters Gladys, Ethel, Ruth and Bess, brothers Art and Dick, grandson Phillip Brooks, and great-granddaughter Jessica Mabus.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00 pm in New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille, ND.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church.  Interment will be in the Valley Grove Cemetery, Kloten, ND.  Military honors provided by Ole Semling American Legion Post # 135.  Memorials are preferred to Northlands Rescue Mission in Grand Forks and The Christian Worship Hour, Aberdeen, SD.
