JoAnn Pollock Obituary

JoAnn Kay Lukenbill Pollock began her life here October 24, 1942.  All of her growing up years were with her parents and four brothers in Des Moines IA, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1960.  JoAnn attended Waldorf College in Forest City IA and Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma WA, always with scholastic honors.

JoAnn married Russell Pollock in 1966 and was essential in helping him through seminary by teaching English and French for a total of five years at Cathlamet WA, Dubuque IA, Elgin Ill, and Hendricks MN.  Their two children, John and Elizabeth were born in 1972 and 1974.

Beginning in 1970, JoAnn served with her husband in Cogswell, Brampton, Havana, Litchville, Jamestown, Cavalier, Northwood, Gackle and one year in Fordville, all in the END Synod.

JoAnn taught youth and adult classes, gave programs, did puppetry, was the creative part of the couple's youth ministries, Sunday school, VBS, children's sermonettes, Christmas programs and always brought art and beautiful banners to each church served.  Over the years JoAnn worked at Newman Signs Jamestown, receptionist at Icelandic State Park, as a Foster Care Social Worker, librarian and held other secretarial jobs.

JoAnn received an art degree at VCSC in 1979. God revealed to her that He gave her art for the 'balm of her soul' and family and friends have delighted in her unique creative mind, style and mediums.

JoAnn, at times, would say, even in her living room, " The Holy Spirit is so present here, I can reach out and put my hand in Him".  Russell believes that God gave that to JoAnn to help her live with the constant physical pain she dealt with for many years and deal with several health problems.   When the thought of Christ on the Cross came to mind, she would say that she could feel her eyes welling up.  This is how sensitively attuned JoAnn was to life, suffering, joy, love, color and people and why she could write so beautifully.  Her mind and hands were ALWAYS creating and she was an avid reader.  When she was a receptionist, people would linger much longer than they intended visiting with JoAnn. When she ran the youth center canteen, kids liked to hang out in the kitchen with her. After visiting with JoAnn, Russell's wise aged spiritual advisor said, 'You have a 'bonanza'!  JoAnn has been a 'bonanza' to Russ's life, their entire life together.

JoAnn received her new 'spiritual body' ' made by God himself' (I Cor. 15:44 and II Cor. 5:1),  and began her glorious life that 'no heart of man has ever conceived (I Cor. 2:9) on May 24, 2019.  I Peter 1:8-9:  So (we) REJOICE WITH A GREAT AND GLORIOUS JOY WHICH WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS, because (we) are receiving the salvation of (our) souls which is the purpose of (our) faith in him.

JoAnn is greatly missed and loved by Russell, John, Elizabeth, brother Larry, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Bessie Lukenbill, and three brothers Charles, Keith and Kenny Lukenbill.
