Jerry O. Smaaladen

Jerry O. Smaaladen, Age 79, resident of Aneta, ND passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND. 

Jerry was born August 13, 1939 the son of Orphy and Ruth (Johnson) Smaaladen in Aneta, ND. He was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Kloten, ND on January 14th, 1940.  After his father Orphy passed away, he went and lived with his grandparents Hans and Anna Johnson in McVille, ND.  He had three doting uncles and an aunt that lived there as well, and those days were some of his fondest memories.   He made lifelong friendships, played baseball, and thrived.  In 1948, when his grandmother passed away, he moved back to Aneta with his parents, Verner and Ruth (Johnson) Sandeen.  He attended school at Aneta Public Schools and graduated in 1957.  During his years in high school, he played basketball and baseball.  Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 8th, 1958 and was later stationed in Texas, England, France and Africa.  He was discharged on July 11th, 1962.  In Aneta, Jerry work for George Solberg at Champlain Oil and later moved to Lakota, ND, where he was employed at Knetter Cheese for many years. 

Jerry is survived his three sisters, Beverly (Stewart) Suby of Northwood, Gloria (Raymond) Pecka of Tulsa Oklahoma, and Elsie (Richard) Davidson of Rugby, ND, sister-in-law Bonnie (Rudy) Sandeen as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, whom he adored.  He was preceded in death by his parents Orphy Smaaladen, Ruth Sandeen and Verner Sandeen, brothers, Rudy Sandeen and Laverne Sandeen, brother-in-law Stewart Suby and niece Lisa Suby. 

Graveside services will be held at Silent Hill Cemetery in Aneta, ND on August 10th, 2019 at 11 a.m.  Military Honors will be provided by Edward A. Broberg American Legion Post #16.  Reception for friends and family to follow at Sundahl Lutheran Church in Aneta, ND.
