Janice (Stave) Moen, age 81, resident of Michigan, ND, died Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Janice Ardelle Stave was born June 16, 1938 in York Township of Benson County, ND, the daughter of Otto and Myrtle (Nelson) Stave. She attended Leeds Public School and graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School. After graduation, she attended Valley City Teachers College. She taught elementary school for a few years, then attended the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Over the years, Janice taught in Lakota, Great Falls, MT, Grand Forks, and Leeds schools. She married Sherman Moen on July 21, 1968 at North Prairie Lutheran Church near Leeds, ND. They lived and farmed near Whitman, ND and had two children, Sheryl and Scott. Janice was an active member and held leadership positions in many community organizations including Sarnia United Lutheran Church, WELCA, Whitman Homemakers, ND Agri-Women, Thrivent Financial Nelson County Board, and Carnegie Regional Library Board. She was a 4-H leader for the Whitman girls and boys 4-H clubs. She enjoyed painting, crafting, and researching family history.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Stave; and step-father, Ralph Randle.
She is survived by her husband, Sherman Moen of Michigan, ND; children, Sheryl Moen of Minneapolis, MN and Scott & his wife Missy Moen of Whitman, ND; grandchildren, McKenzie and Shawn Moen; brothers, James Stave of Brooklyn, NY and Donald Stave of Salol, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank staff of Edgewood Vista, East Grand Forks, MN and the Good Samaritan Society, Lakota, ND for the care they provided for the past year and a half.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church, Michigan, ND, on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the spring at West Forest Cemetery, rural Whitman, ND. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Thursday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the West Forest Cemetery or the Alzheimers Association.
