Janet Larson Obituary

Janet Larson, age 95, resident of Aneta, ND passed away Thursday, May 17 at Aneta Parkview Health Center.

Janet Carol (Berg) Larson was born April 22, 1923 near Finley, ND, the 4th of 10 children born to Arnold and Ella (Johnson) Berg.  She was baptized at Ostervold Church, rural Finley.  She completed 8th grade education at Sherbrooke school then worked for area families during threshing; taking care of their children.  When she was 18 years old, she took a job at Carl Vold’s café in McVille where she met her husband LeRoy Larson.  They were married on April 1, 1942.  LeRoy was drafted in July 1942, and he was in the service overseas until June 1945 with no furlough during that time.  Their first child was born when LeRoy was gone while Janet lived with her folks or LeRoy’s parents during their first 3 years of marriage.  They farmed for 3 years north of Kloten, ND until LeRoy got the mail carrier job in Kloten.  Janet was a homemaker, and stayed busy cleaning, cooking, and raising 9 children.  Her husband, LeRoy was killed while delivering mail in 1967.  She then got a job as bartender and selling Fuller Brush until she got a nurse aide job at McVille Friendship Manor.  She worked as a substitute post office clerk in Kloten at the time of its closure.  Janet retired as a nurse aide from Aneta Good Samaritan Center at age 64.

Janet has lived in Kloten all her adult life and was a member of Valley Grove Lutheran Church until its closure.  She was a Sunday School teacher, member of Thimble Club, and Valley Grove Ladies Aide.  She served for the Kloten PTA at numerous sporting events at the Kloten School.  She enjoyed retirement by traveling with her girlfriends called “The Golden Girls”.  She also kept busy making quilts for each of her children, afghans, and embroidered dishtowels for all the grandchildren.  She loved to dance, host holiday family dinners, and bake.  She always had a bag of donuts available.  She enjoyed telephone conversations with friends/family always ending with an “I love you”.  Sending a birthday card to each family member kept her in touch with everyone.  She moved to an apartment in Aneta in Fall 2011 and entered Aneta Parkview Health Center in October 2017.
