Irene (Brown) Olson

Irene Opal Olson, 97 of McVille ND, passed Nov. 30th 2017 at Prescott Valley AZ, at the home of Maxine and Gordon Johnson. She was born Aug. 10, 1920 in rural Naponee NE, to Olga and Austin Brown. She grew up with eight siblings on her parents’ farm. She married Ole W. Olson in 1940, in Broken Bow NE. They moved to Puyallup WA for one year, and worked in fruit orchards there. They then moved back to NE and had their first child. While her husband went to serve in WWII, she raised her daughter for three and a half years; and worked in a factory for a year. When he returned they moved to Brocket ND; and eventually to the McVille area, residing in two different farm homes to start farming. She was blessed with three more children while living a farmer wife’s wholesome life.

They retired in 1977 to a newly built home on the edge of McVille which they enjoyed 15 years together until she sadly lost him. She then stayed in the same home for another 23 years. The last few years she had become a snowbird, going to stay with daughter Maxine in Prescott Valley AZ, for winter months and in 2016 she took up permanent residence there.

She was involved in the Homemaker’s Club and the McVille Woman’s Auxiliary. She loved gardening, bowling, reading, crafting, puzzles, cross words, playing cards, board games, bingo, slot machines, and traveling. She was also an avid Twins fan, never missing a game.

Irene was a sweetheart of a lady whose greatest love was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters: Maxine (Gordon) Johnson, Prescott Valley AZ; Carol Clevenger, Windsor CO. Her grandkids: David (Nancy) Bunde; DeAnna (Dwight) Lane; Sheila (Gilberto) Miller Nolasco; Angela Miller; Michael Miller; Dominic (Amanda) Olson; Melissa Olson; Melanie (Mike) Leadbetter; Emerson Olson; Danielle Clevenger; and Calie Clevenger. As well as her great grandchildren: Kevin, Jacob, Sarah, Halley,Loryn, Alex, Gaven, Ramzey, Colin, Layla, and Jayden.

Preceded in death by her parents and all siblings, her loving husband Ole Olson, daughter Betty Miller, son Billy Olson, and grand-daughter Anita Olson.

A memorial service will be held Dec 29, 2017 at 4 p.m. at New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille ND with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. Interment will be in the spring at McVille Cemetery. Correspondence may be sent to: Carol Clevenger 524 Kenai Crt, Windsor, CO 80550.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial to either McVille Cemetery or McVille American Legion Womens Auxiliary.
