Gladys Haugen, age 87, resident of McVille, ND, died on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the Nelson County Health System Hospital in McVille.
Gladys Sophie Ruud was born on June 12, 1932 in Central township of Nelson County, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Swenseth) Ruud. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Lakota High School in 1950. She then attended Mayville Teacher’s College and taught for three years. She married Arnold Haugen on June 18, 1955 at Center Lutheran Church near McVille. They moved to a farm south of McVille and a few years later purchased a farm near Binford. They raised their five children on the farm and were active members of New Luther Valley Lutheran Church in McVille. They retired from full-time farming in 1991, but continued to help their son, Darrell, on the farm for several more years. They also enjoyed several years of living together in West Fargo until Arnold passed away in 2002. Soon after that, Gladys returned to the McVille/Binford area where she enjoyed gardening, quilting and church activities. She was very active and enjoyed walking and riding her three-wheeled bike. Visiting her family in California and Michigan were additional highlights for her.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Darrell (Kari) Haugen, Binford, ND, 3 daughters, Gayle Haugen, Rocklin, CA, Mary (Greg) Seeba, Camarillo, CA, and Yvonne (David) Blake, Ontonagon, MI; 6 grandchildren, Nathaniel, Emily, and Lauren Seeba and Elise Blake, Paige (Stephen) Moan, and Micah Blake. One brother, Lloyd (Marilyn) Ruud, 2 sisters, Joan Lindvall and Arlene (Jerry) Robinson, and 4 sister-in-laws, Peggy Ruud, Clarine Ruud, Virginia Haugen and Carol Haugen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold, son Bradley Haugen, brothers Harold and Elden Ruud, and sister Lois Rosenow.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2019 from 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, and will continue Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the spring in New Luther Valley Cemetery, McVille, ND.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be designated to Nelson County Health Services Foundation.
