Ethel Bosh Obituary

Ethel Bosh, age 100, of Michigan, ND, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home Wednesday, May 23, 2018, just a week before her 101st birthday.

Ethel Minnie Lala was born May 31, 1917 on the family farm near Michigan, ND, the daughter of Adolph and Ida (Sticha) Lala.  She grew up there and attended country school and public school in Michigan along with her identical twin sister, Edith and her brother Laddie.  In 1940, Ethel was united in marriage to Benjamin J. Bosh, of Lankin, ND.  They continued to live on the family farm until 1954 when they moved into the City of Michigan.  They had two children, Judith Renee and Joanne Carol.  Ethel worked for many years for the Benson Drug Store and Medical Clinic in Michigan, and for about twenty years at the Johnson Store, as well as being a homemaker and mother.  Ethel was a member of the St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, where she served on the various women’s committees.  Ethel was a kind, loving and caring person.  She spent many years taking personal care of her mother, brother, and husband when they were ill.  Ethel loved to bake, especially kolache, and she was referred to as the “Kolache Lady” by many.  Ethel enjoyed spending time with family members, and taking the occasional trip to the casino.  One of her favorite activities was having coffee with her dear friends, and she also enjoyed reading, and playing Bunco in the past.  Ethel has always loved dancing, and was known to say “I’d rather dance than eat!”  Her favorite dances were the Waltz and the Polka.  She danced the day away at her 100th birthday celebration on May 31, 2017.  For that occasion she was honored by the Mayor of Michigan City who declared it “Ethel Bosh Day”.  As well, she received a letter of recognition from Pope Francis and the Bishop of Fargo.

Ethel is survived by her daughter, Judith Renee Ulberg, Circle Pines, MN; son-in-law, Michael Dornseif, Ft. Meyers, FL; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Jason) Rustan, North Branch, MN, Scott (Celeste) Ulberg, Maple Grove, MN, Michelle (John) Ulvin, Cambridge, MN, Sara (Chad) Larsin, Lino Lakes, MN, and Jason (Lael) Dornseif, Hutchinson, MN; 10 great-grandchildren, Kristjan Rustan, Zachary Rustan, Henry Ulberg, Lilly Ulberg, Ashlee Dornseif, Mckenzie Dornseif, Ian Ulvin, Benjamin Dornseif, Allison Dornseif, and Brayden Dornseif; 1 great-great-grandchild, Alex Dornseif; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Bosh; parents, Adolph and Ida Lala; brother, Laddie Lala; sister, Edith Kadlec; and daughter, Joanne Dornseif.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church of Michigan, ND, on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be in the Michigan Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Church on Friday for one hour prior to Mass.
