Elizabeth “Betty” Schultz, age 92, resident of Lakota, ND, died Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Elizabeth Jane Doyle was born January 29, 1927 in Minot, ND, the daughter of Leo and Harriet (Simmons) Doyle. She attended school at Minot and Bartlett, ND, where her family moved when she was young. She graduated from Lakota High School in 1945. Betty married Farnum Schultz on June 27, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lakota. She worked as a telephone operator in Lakota. They lived in the country for a short time before moving back into Lakota; later in their marriage they moved to the Doyle family farmstead near Bartlett. Betty loved sewing, quilting, mowing, and caring for her yard & gardens. She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered her time wherever she could. Farnum died February 10, 1988. Betty continued living on the farm until moving to the Good Samaritan Society in November 2015.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Vern) Roorda of Ypsilanti, ND and their children, Rebecca (Donovan) Diede, Calvin (Christina) Roorda, Sarah (Nic) Couture & Richard Roorda; daughter, Mary (Gary) Timms of Cando, ND and their children, Laura (Chris) Church, Paula (friend, Troy Kinn) Hatzenbuhler, Alan (friend, Nicole Anderson) Timms, Stacey Timms & Jenny Timms; son, Leslie Schultz; son, Kevin (Berna) Schultz of Glyndon, MN and their children, Jeremy Schultz, Brandon Schultz & Austin (fiancé, Melissa Owen) Schultz; surviving children of Susan Putney: Wendy (Ryan) Suda, Farnum James (Misty) Klindt, Tabitha (Derek) Arnaud & Heather (Brandon) Janssen; several great grandchildren; and a brother, Bernard (Lorraine) Doyle of Lakota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Farnum; daughter, Susan Putney; grandson, Brian Klindt; and her dear uncle, Dwight Doyle.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lakota, on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
