Alvina Germundson, age 82, of McVille, ND died Monday, December 2, 2019 at Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille.
Alvina was born August 10, 1937 in New Rockford, ND, the daughter of Henry and Muriel (Kragerud) Ponto. She attended Sheyenne Public School, graduating in 1955. Alvina attended business school in Minneapolis where she lived in a boarding house with other students and nannied for families to supplement her income. She returned to North Dakota to attend college in Devils Lake. Alvina met and married Gene Germundson on Dec 6, 1957 in New Rockford. They had 3 sons: Curtis, Craig, and Corey. They raised their family in McVille.
Alvina enjoyed playing cards, watching game shows, bowling, bingo, and participating in the arts. She enjoyed attending the Pekin Art Show every year. Alvina loved to drive her car. She offered to drive others to medical appointments, concerts, and shopping trips. She especially enjoyed driving with her friend Marion Hendrickson, both for work and to observe wildlife and birds. Alvina embroidered dishtowels, donating completed sets to causes dear to her and giving them as gifts. Alvina was a lifelong member of McVille American Legion Auxiliary.
Alvina enjoyed her family: son Curtis (Nancy) Germundson, granddaughter Rachel (Josh) Erickson, great grandchildren Cullen, Josie, and Sam; son Craig (Kress) Germundson, granddaughter Kelsey Germundson, granddaughter Amanda (Matthew Quinn) Germundson, great grandchild Isabelle, and grandson Joseph Germundson; son Corey (Susan) Germundson, granddaughter Shelby (Benjamin) Strand, great grandson Ole, and granddaughter Abby Germundson; brother Arthur (Gerri) Ponto; sisters Sharon Pierce and Sharlene (Jim) Helenski; and nieces and nephews.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents and husband Gene.
Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. with funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at McVille Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Interment will be in the Spring at McVille Cemetery. Funeral honors will be provided by McVille American Legion Auxiliary.
