Neil R. Hatten, age 69, resident of Lakota, ND, died Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Neil was born June 26, 1937 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Ralph and Ann (Cole) Hatten. He was raised in the Southam, ND area. He attended the Cleveland, Hope, and Southam Schools. Neil was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 18, 1961, and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1963. Neil married Ruth Stewart on March 13, 1965 in Devils Lake. They lived there until 1968, when they moved to Lakota. Neil was a mechanic at Lakota Implement, then Solberg Motors in Lakota until his retirement. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lakota, the Rundell-Holicky American Legion Post #21 of Lakota, the Nelson County Historical Society and the Tractor Club.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth Hatten of Lakota; a son, Greg Hatten of Harwood, ND; a daughter, Brenda & her husband Chad Vertin of Breckenridge, MN; 3 grandchildren, Bailey, Lindsey, and Ethan Vertin; 4 sisters, Joyce (Selmer) Severson of Michigan, ND, Charlotte Burt of Devils Lake, ND, Marilyn (Lenny) Bachmeier of Forest Lake, MN, and Monica (Don) Schill of Breckenridge, MN; and his aunt, Mary Sundeen of Lakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Peggy Eidsness; and a brother, Duane Hatten.
Neil’s Funeral Service will be held at the United Church of Christ, Lakota, ND, on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Sue Mackey. The organist will be Ellen Pederson, and the soloist will be Jason Flom.
Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Rundell-Holicky American Legion Post #21.
Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
