Shirley L. Haas

Shirley L. Haas, age 82, resident of Tolna, ND died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Rosewood on Broadway, in Fargo, ND.

Shirley was born January 11, 1928 at Pekin, ND, the daughter of Alfred and Sena (Otteson) Opoien. She was raised in Pekin and graduated from Pekin High School in 1946. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College and received her teaching degree. She taught in rural schools and substituted at Tolna and Warwick. Shirley married Russell Haas on October 8, 1950. They farmed north of Tolna for 44 years. Russell passed away November 13, 1994. Shirley was an active member of American Lutheran Church at Tolna, hospice programs, Farmers Union, 4-H, homemakers, REC, and many other activities. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, baking and enjoying life.

Shirley will be missed and remembered by her 4 daughters, Sharon (Mike Nelson) of Washburn, ND, Shelly (Beryl Lonski) of Fargo, ND, Rena (Scott Erickson) of Mora, MN and Roberta (Steve Olson) of Grand Forks, ND; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Allan (Donna) Opoien of Pekin, ND; 4 sisters, Beulah Gaarder of Arizona, Margaret (Larry) Mannie of Washington, Margie (Orlie) Thorson of Arizona, and Molly Mathiason of Fairdale, ND; 1 aunt, Bertha Otteson of Moorhead, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Renae; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Shirley's Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church, Tolna, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Tolna Cemetery.
