Leonard
Glimsdal, age 89, resident of Aneta, ND, died Monday,
December 28, 2009 at the Northwood Deaconess Health
Center in Northwood, ND.
Leonard
M. Glimsdal was born June 17, 1920 in rural Binford,
ND, the son of Lars and Malla (Paulsrud) Glimsdal. He
grew up and attended country school near Binford. On
December 3, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army 99th Battalion
of Ski Troopers and served at Normandy, northern France,
and central Europe before his discharge on November
8, 1945. He then spent 6 months in Norway following
the war. He returned home to farm for about 50 years
near Aneta, ND.
Leonard
was a life member of the McVille American Legion, Sons
of Norway, VFW, Battle of the Bulge, and Nelson County
Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of the
Norway Lutheran Church and served on the Pilot Mound
Township and the Norway Church boards.
Leonard
is survived by his brother Gordon of Aneta, ND along
with 8 nieces and nephews.
He
is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marian
Nelson, Eleanor Bratvold and Ruth Gjelsness.
Funeral
services for Leonard will be Saturday, January 2, 2010
at 2:00 PM in the Northwood Deaconess Health Center-Swarstad
Chapel, Northwood, ND. Visitation will be Saturday,
January 2, 2010 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center-Swarstad
Chapel from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Spring interment
will be in the Norway Church Cemetery. Arrangements
with Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home.
