James Gilmore Bothen, age 85, resident of McVille, ND died Tuesday October 6, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND .

James Gilmore Bothen was born November 3, 1923 on the family farm near McVille , ND, the son of Ole and Anne (Kongsund) Bothen. He grew up and was raised in rural McVille where he attended country school, and graduated from McVille High School in 1941. Following graduation he went to work on the family farm. James married Dorothy Kniefel on November 13, 1957 in McVille, ND. After their marriage they lived in McVille and James took over management of the family farm. Dorothy passed away on July 29, 1982, and in the mid 1980's James retired from farming. James married Selma Ham in October of 1992. James enjoyed antiquing, attending threshing bees, and a good meal. He also liked to keep up with the trends in farming. James placed great value on the friendships he had with others.

James is survived by his sister, Agnes Munns of Okoboji, Iowa, one nephew, Gordon (Lisa) Munns of Stacy, MN, one niece, Ann (Roy Dugger) Munns of Lompoc, CA, and two grandnieces Anna and Katie.

James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy and Selma .

The Funeral Service for James will be held at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural Kloten, ND, on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Reverend Marli Danielson. The organist will be Mary Lou Krogh.  Interment will be in the Our Saviors Church Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Gordon Munns, Ann Munns, Roy Dugger, Anna Munns, Katie Munns, and Byron Bothen. Arthur Knudson is the honorary casketbearer.  Visitation will be held at Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home on Friday, October 9, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m.
