Harlan S. Lund, age 78, of Tolna, ND was born Oct. 16, 1933 in McVille, ND the son of Bjarne and Olga (Jorgenson) Lund. He attended school in rural Nelson County and graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School.

Farming was his passion. Harlan farmed alongside his father and eventually took over the family farm. He married Rhoda Trostad on Nov. 30, 1965.

Harlan was an active member of Sigdal Lutheran Church and was church secretary for 17 years. He served as a school board member. In his younger years he enjoyed skiing, roller skating, singing in a quartet and playing saxophone in a band. He loved singing, often sang solos and could whistle a beautiful tune. He had fun camping and fishing. He treasured time with his family and every Christmas sang a carol in Norwegian.

Harlan passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Nelson County Hospital in McVille, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ordis Sonderby.

He will be deeply missed and remembered by his wife, Rhoda Lund of Tolna, ND; sons Michael Lund of Vergas, MN, Stacy (Kelly) Lund of Tolna, ND; daughters Kristi Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Kim (Jeff) Adolphson of Park Rapids, and Lezlie (Darrin) Northagen of Maple Grove, MN; sister Elna (DuWayne) Anderson; grandchildren Tanya (Dustin) Payne, Trevor Lund and Alyssa Lund; Logan and Jonathan Lund; Terri and Wade Johnson; Kelsey and Spencer Adolphson; Paige, Hope and Blake Northagen; great-grandchildren Tyler, AJ and Aiden.
