Gloria Ann Bakstad, age 71, resident of McVille, ND passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Nelson County Health System – Care Center in McVille. Gloria was born January 10, 1938 in McVille the daughter of George and Florence (Magnuson) Christenson. She grew up and attended school in the McVille area, and graduated from McVille High School in 1957. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College for 1 year. In 1960 Gloria married David Bakstad. After their marriage they moved to Canada, and continued to live there until David's death in 1962. Gloria returned to McVille and worked at the telephone office for several years. She also worked at the McVille Nursing Home for a short time. In February of 2001 she entered the Nelson County Health System – Care Center. Gloria enjoyed flowers, gardening, and loved caring for her cats.

Gloria is survived by one sister, Lorrene Hedde of Reynolds, ND; two nephews, Kevin Hedde and Brian Hedde; and one niece, Lynelle Hedde.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, son Kenneth, sister Marion Mathison, and brother Larry Christenson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church in McVille, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Norway Cemetery, rural McVille, ND. Arrangements with the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home.
