Gladys Alvina Schmiginske, age 96, resident of McVille , ND died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Nelson County Health System – Care Center in McVille , ND.

Mom was born on a farm south of McVille on February 11, 1913 to Hans and Andrena (Erdahl) Elgin . She was the only child. She married Raymond Schmiginske on October 12, 1933 in Bemidji , MN . After their marriage they lived and farmed south of McVille. They had a lot of card parties and dances on the farm. Grandpa Elgin played the piano and Alvin Elgin played the accordion and violin. Sunday afternoons they had baseball games in the front yard. A few balls went through the dining room window. Mom cleaned many houses around the neighborhood and also cleaned the dentist office. She worked at Red Willow Lake , and when there was something going on at the church mom would be the one to make her egg coffee. Mom loved to play cards, especially whist and also have coffee and goodies when the great games were over. Mom loved to dance too. Polka was her favorite and not many could keep up to her on the dance floor. She and Harvey still would waltz up at the home where she had lived since August 25, 2005.

She is survived by her 4 children, Harvey of McVille, ND, Adeline (Lee) DuVall of Vernonia, OR, Phyllis Helm of Moorhead , MN and Linda Olson of Nevis , MN , 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Arnold and a great granddaughter Dena.

Funeral services for Gladys will be Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church of McVille, ND. Visitation will be Friday, April 3, 2009 from 5 PM to 7 PM with a family service at 7 PM in the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille and continue one hour prior to services in the church.  Officiating will be Reverend Dale Peterson.  Organist will be Margaret Johnson and special music will be Paul Odden and Louann Brooks.  Interment will be in the spring at the Norway Cemetery , McVille , ND . Arrangements with the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home.
