Evelyn Brekken, age 98, resident of McVille, ND, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille, ND. Evelyn was born March 16, 1912 in rural McVille, ND to Albert and Christine (Storlie) Johnson. She grew up and graduated high school in McVille and was confirmed in the McVille Lutheran Church. Evelyn married Arthur Brekken on December 5, 1936 in Lakota, ND. They moved to Pekin, ND where she was a telephone operator and homemaker. Arthur died on October 21, 1986.

Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed embroidery, baking, and cooking.

Evelyn will be missed and remembered by her sister Josie Landberg of Minneapolis, MN; sisters-in-law Margaret Johnson of McVille, ND, Alma Johnson of McVille, ND, and Edith Johnson of McVille, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter JoAnn Landberg, brothers Lawrence Johnson, Ernest Johnson, and Norman Johnson, sisters Gladys Nyberg Frethiem, Florence Boostrom, and Myrtle Miller.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be Monday, May 3, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Pekin Lutheran Church, Pekin, ND. Visitation will be Sunday, May 2, 2010 from 4 to 7 PM in the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, ND and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Pekin Cemetery.
