Allen C. Stein, age 72, resident of New Rockford, ND, formerly of the Devils Lake, ND area, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Allen Clifford Stein was born March 20, 1937 in Nelson County, near Doyon, ND, the son of Peter and Etta (Brekken) Stein. He was raised on his parents farm and graduated from Doyon High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on January 12, 1956 and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1959 at the rank of Airman 2 nd Class. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Allen continued serving in the North Dakota National Guard and lived in Devils Lake. Allen became a father when Patrick Allen Stein was born in 1969. Allen's health began to decline, so he moved into the veteran's home in Lisbon, ND. In June of 2001 he became a resident of the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Allen is survived by his granddaughter, Jessica of Devils Lake, ND; a brother, Jerome (Clarice) Stein of McVille, ND; 2 sisters, Loy (Gerald) Stutrud of McVille, ND, and Mavis (Lloyd) Stromme of Fargo, ND; a brother-in-law, Irvin Anderson of Devils Lake, ND; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Patrick Stein; and his sister, Louise Anderson.

A private graveside service will be held at the Doyon Cemetery, Doyon, ND.
