Alfred Marvin Haugen, age 81, resident of McVille , ND passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at home surrounded by his family.

Alfred was born August 15, 1927 in Lee Township , the son of Ole and Alma Marie (Knutson) Haugen. He grew up and attended school at Kloten where he graduated from High School. He served as a Radio Controller in the United States Army. He worked as a farm laborer and an auto mechanic before owning and operating the Mobil Service Station in McVille. He married Virginia Ronningen from Binford , ND in August of 1955 and lived in McVille. He worked for Standard Oil, and later owned Haugen Oil Company. He enjoyed the coffee and visits with his customers. He and a friend started the Our Own Hardware in McVille. He also did furnace work and was a Crop Sprayer. He served on the city council and was active in his church. He retired from the oil business in 1990. He was a partner in the McVille State Bank from 1992-2007. He later became active in the “Old Time Kings Band”. They played at numerous Nursing Homes and surrounding local events. He loved his family, and his second pride and joy was owning and driving his 1931 Model “A” coupe around town and in local parades.

He will be greatly missed and remembered by his wife, Virginia, and six children, Vicki Anne (David) Larson of Osakis, MN, Arlys (Tom) Balstad of EGF, MN, Connie (Steve) Corcoran of EGF, MN, Roxan (Tom) Mikkelson of Osakis, MN, Karen (Rodger) Larson of Osakis, MN, and Wayne (Stacy) Haugen of Red Lake Falls, MN. 17 grandchildren -Matthew (Maria), Amos, and Brian Larson, Jason Mohn, Richard and Cody Holtman, Kól and Drew Balstad, Joe and Kjetel Corcoran, Michael, Samantha, and Bradley Mikkelson, Jocelyn (Matthew) Vincent, Sydney Larson, Caley and Kelsea Haugen, and 3 great-grandsons - Hayden and Hunter Larson, and Isaac Walette-Balstad. Mother-in-law Clara Ronningen, sister Mabel Koppang, brother Albin (Carol) Haugen, sister-in-law Gladys Haugen, brothers-in-law Jerry (Ina) Ronningen and Donald (Donna) Ronningen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Halmer and his twin brother Arnold, sisters and brothers-in-law Mildred & Bjorne Martinson, Thelma & Imer Johnson, and Talbert Koppang, and father-in-law Earny Ronningen.

Funeral services for Alfred will be Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church , McVille , ND . Officiating will be Reverend Lynn Kinneberg. Organist will be Yvonne Blake.  Special music by Darrell Haugen and Jo Ann Sherwood.  Casketbearers will be Kevin Solberg, David Haugen, Darrell Haugen, Michael Ronningen, Tom Ensrud and Michael Trost.    Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21, 2009 from 4 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service, all in the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church , McVille , ND . Interment will be in the New Luther Valley Cemetery , McVille , ND . Military Honors by the Ole Semling American Legion Post #135, McVille , ND .
