Manley G. Hegna, Sr., age 83, resident of Aneta, ND passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Cooperstown Medical Center – Nursing Home. 

Manley was born October 29, 1926 on the family farm near Aneta, ND the son of Halvor and Nina (Kvale) Hegna.  He grew up and attended country school near Aneta.  Manley married Irene Haakenson on December 15, 1958.  After their marriage they farmed and raised cattle near Aneta.  In 1966 Manley stopped farming and the couple moved to town.  He continued to work for area farmers until his retirement in 1989.  Irene passed away September 1, 1995.  Throughout his life Manley loved hunting, fishing and trapping.  He also enjoyed reading and tinkering with things in his garage. 

Manley will be missed and remembered by his 5 children, Julie (Dean) Ostenson of Aneta, ND, Lilly Archer of Finley, ND, Nina Marie (Donavon) Bye of Northwood, ND, Manley Hegna, Jr. of Aneta, ND and Lizy (Dickie) Zentz of Sharon, ND;  15 grandchildren, Rex Zentz, Keith Zentz, Jamie Zentz, Dustin Bye, William Bye, David Bye, Alyssa Bye, Shawn Bye, Daniel Bye and Jacob Bye; Joshua Ostenson, Jennifer Crone, Jessica Johnson, Shannon Johnson, Mandy Klosner, 5 great grandchildren, Addison Crone, Reaghan Crone, Kennady Johnson, Shaycee Johnson and Azlynn Johnson; 2 sisters, Lillian Good of Finley, ND and Hilda Ginther of Seattle, WA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Manley was preceded in death by his parents, wife, great grandson Jayeston Brueckner, 3 sisters, Alvina Howden, Agnes Buros and Olene Heller, 2 brothers, Adler and Johnnie. 

Funeral services for Manley will be Monday, December 14, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the Ottawa Lutheran Church, rural Aneta, ND.  Visitation will be Sunday, December 13, 2009 from 3 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services in the church.  Interment will be in the Ottawa Church Cemetery.  Arrangements with the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel
