Kaare Romsaas,
age 94, resident of Hannaford and Cooperstown, ND passed
away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Cooperstown Medical
Center – Hospital in Cooperstown.
Kaare
was born September 20, 1916 in Fåvang,
Norway the son of Emil and Bastine (Spangrud) Romsaas.
He attended school in Norway and planned to study horticulture
until the war began. He was wounded during World War
II and spent years recovering before he got back on
his feet. In 1948 his uncle brought him to the United
States. He worked on the farm with Sig and purchased
his own place in 1958. On April 25, 1959 he married
Marit Hagen in Minneapolis, MN. Together they spent
51 years on the farm near Hannaford. Kaare & Marit
lost an infant at birth and although they didn't have
any other children he was very proud to be a father
to Ivar & Andy Haaland. After retiring from the
farm they made several trips back to Norway and spent
18 winters in the Canary Islands. Kaare's family and
his church were of great importance to him. He loved
all animals and liked spending time in the garden.
Kaare
will be missed and remembered by his wife Marit Romsaas;
special friends Randal (Loree) Hoverson, Curtis, Ryan
& Kyle Hoverson, Dr. Allen Hoverson, III “Trey”,
Ivar & Andy Haaland; and numerous nieces and nephews
in Norway .
He
was preceded in death by his parents, infant child,
3 brothers Leif, Knut & Sam.
Funeral
services for Kaare will be Friday, February 4, 2011
at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 3PM
to 6PM with a prayer service at 6PM in the Cooperstown
Funeral Chapel. Military Honors by the Gordon Lindgren
Post #143 of Cooperstown. Interment will be in the spring
at the Cooperstown cemetery.
