Clarice
L. Somerville, age 92 of McHenry, ND passed away Saturday,
September 19, 2009 at the Cooperstown Medical Center
– Nursing Home in Cooperstown .
Clarice
was born September 11, 1917 in McVille, ND the daughter
of Dean and Anna (Stromme) White. She grew up and was
educated in McHenry, graduating from McHenry High School.
She married Robert Somerville on October 7, 1939 in
Lakota, ND. After their marriage they made their home
on the family farm near Hamar, ND. Clarice was active
with the ladies aid at Our Savior's and Sigdal Lutheran
Church, the garden club in Tolna and the local election
boards. She was a member of the Carl Bostrom Legion
Auxiliary Unit of McHenry. Clarice had a talent when
it came to writing. She wrote a column called “Chit
Chat” for the newspapers in Carrington, New Rockford
and McVille along with the local news. Clarice was known
by some as the photographer as she loved taking pictures.
She enjoyed gardening, quilting and baking. In 1986
they moved from the family farm to McHenry. Robert passed
away on July 6, 1989 . Clarice continued to live in
McHenry until her health deteriorated. She had been
a resident of the Cooperstown Medical Center – Nursing
Home since April of 2006.
Clarice
will be missed and remembered by her daughters Roberta
(LeRoy) Johnson of West Fargo, ND and Annola (Lyle)
Black of McHenry, ND; sons Dean (Peggy) Somerville of
Binford, ND and Robert (Debbie Christenson) Somerville
of McHenry, ND; grandchildren Terri (Danny) Harding,
Penny (Curtis) Allen, Jim (Diane) Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson,
Tamara Somerville, Stacy (Ryan) Somerville, Cris (Jodi)
Somerville, Heather (Roderick) Tester, Jennifer (Jeff)
Sewell, Sara Somerville, Elizabeth Hoggarth, Veronica
(Jason) Vollmer, Stephanie (Robbie) Erwin and Lucinda
Grandalen; 36 great grandchildren.
She
is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson
Samuel and 2 brothers Leonard and Arthur.
Funeral
services for Clarice will be Thursday, September 24,
2009 at 11:00 AM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, McHenry,
ND. Officiating will be Reverend Cheri Danielson.
Organist will be Theresa Fiebiger. Visitation
will be Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 4 PM to 7
PM in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Interment will
be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, McHenry, ND. Arrangements
with the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel.
