Eugene Alley, age 82 of Cooperstown, ND, formerly Glenfield, ND passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Cooperstown Medical Center – Nursing Home.

Eugene was born February 24, 1928 in Carrington, ND the son of Albert and Irene (Kadrie) Alley. He grew up and attended school in Glenfield, graduating from Glenfield High School. Eugene was active in sports, playing softball well into his early 50's. He entered the United State Navy and was honorably discharged. In 1948 he started working for the BNSF Railroad. Eugene married Berniece Hogie in 1956. After their marriage the couple made their home in Glenfield. They owned and operated the bar for several years. Throughout his time with the railroad he worked as a section laborer, section foreman and then retired in 1990 as a bus & truck driver. Eugene enjoyed playing cards and in 1994 was the state pinochle champion. He was a member of the Carl Bostrom Legion Post in McHenry, ND.

Eugene is survived by his wife Berniece Alley of Cooperstown, ND; daughter Becky (Jim House) Alley of Glenfield, ND; sons Steven (Linda) Alley of Fargo, ND, David (Lisa) Alley of McHenry, ND, Albert (Sylvia) Alley of Las Vegas, NV and Rod Alley of Fargo, ND; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother David (Dee) Alley of Bowling Green, KY; half sister Sara (Bob Hyman) Caswell of Oak Park, IL; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Kathy Alley.

Graveside services for Eugene will be Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 9:30 AM in the Glenfield Cemetery, Glenfield, ND. Military honors will be provided by the North Dakota Military Honors Team. Memorial services will follow that same day at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND.  Officiating will be Reverend Shelley Prentice.  Special music will be provided by Kathy Soma-Gawronski.
